Racing red is a specific thing — a red with momentum, pulled slightly toward orange by daylight but never orange. Rouge Casaque wears it evenly on Evercolor calfskin, the fine grain giving the colour a matte softness that photographs well and grows on you in person. The bag is 22 cm wide, 16 cm tall and 7 cm deep; worn crossbody, red at that size reads cheerful rather than theatrical, and the silver hardware keeps the tone fast and modern.
Inside: phone, key pouch, cardholder, lip balm, and a pen I keep meaning to remove. The flap’s interior is lined with the same leather as the outside, a detail worth noticing only because so many bags are not, and it means the open flap looks as considered as the closed one.
The honest note: bright reds show contrast at every seam, so wear and scuffs appear where the leather folds — near the hinge, at the corners — before they appear anywhere else. Evercolor is one of the most resistant leathers available for this exact reason, and mine held its colour through a rainy autumn without spotting. Second note: this red is warm-hearted and chatty, and it collects compliments from strangers, which some people enjoy and some do not.
For a grey winter coat, there is no better antidote on this page. The Danse makes a case for red as a working colour, not a guest one.
