Gris Mouette is named for the seagull, and there is something coastal about it: a mid-grey with a cool, airy cast that lifts an all-dark outfit and settles a loud one. It is the bag I take on trips when the weather will be doing several things.
Just under a handspan across at its widest, the medium body holds a paperback, a thin cardigan, keys, phone, wallet and sunglasses. Clemence is thick enough that the bag keeps a soft shape instead of collapsing entirely, and unlined enough that it feels like a leather sack in the most satisfying sense of the phrase. On a train it tucks under an arm without fuss and never needs its own seat.
The silver lock sits on its tab and matches the coolness of the grey; the short handles are stiff at first and soften at their bends within a few weeks. Nothing on the bag asks for special handling, and the color takes nearly any season of coat, from camel to black. Nothing in it fights anything else in the wardrobe, which is why it travels so well.
An honest note on mid-tones: they show corner wear more than either pale or dark greys. The folded base and the points where the handles meet the body will look slightly lighter after a season of honest use. It buffs back with a little cream, and I would rather have the color than avoid the wear.
