I bought Bleu Orage on a week when the sky outside my window matched it exactly — a storm blue-grey, clouded but never dull. Silver hardware turned out to be the right call; it keeps the mood cool and lets the leather’s pebble grain do the texture work.
Dimensions first, because this bag lives or dies by them: just over seven inches tall, a compact bucket with a rolled handle and the signature lock at the top where the two strap ends meet. Taurillon Clemence is the soft, beefy bull calf favoured for slouchy shapes — it arrives supple, holds a gentle slump rather than a hard edge, and develops a soft glow where your hand grips the handle.
Inside goes my daily kit: phone, keys, a coin purse and a packet of tissues, with room left for a small camera when it rains and plans change. It hangs on the wrist, so my hands stay free for umbrellas and coffee.
Against stone-grey knitwear it all but vanishes; with camel it turns intent and moody, which is when I like it most.
Now the caveat you would hear from anyone who has owned Clemence: rain and this leather have an uneasy relationship, and spotty marks can stay if you let the bag get properly soaked. I keep a protective spray on mine and choose a different bag for storms. Bleu Orage is for the look of weather, not the wet.
